LetsGoPaddle.com - Paddlesports Marketting CampaignSea Kayak
TAPS has teamed up with the PIA and Siquis to create a web-based marketting campaign aimed at mothers and families. The site is designed to provide these consumers with appropriate and timely information on
  • How to Paddle
  • Where to Paddle
  • Local Resources
  • And other valuable links.

The site provides the paddlesports industry with a targetted marketting vehicle to expand participation and identify potential leads. LetsGoPaddle.com will be launched at Summer Outdoor Retailer 2008.

Details on the campaign and how to join are available in the Members Section of this site.

2008 North East Canoe and Kayak Symposium
Save the date! September 5-7, 2008 is the inaugural NECKS Show. Based at Spruce Run State Park near Clinton New Jersey, NECKS marks an evolution in consumer oriented shows at TAPS. NECKS is designed to provide new and curious paddlers access to the best regional and national instructors, speakers, and paddlesports products. Details on the show are available at the NECKS website - www.necanoeandkayak.org.

Outdoor Retailer

TAPS continues to work with Outdoor Retailer to bring increased exposure to paddlesports at Winter and Summer Market by supporting the Open Air Demo, running the Paddlesports Lounge and The Paddlesports Innovation Centre, offering specialized training opportunities, and working with Outdoor Retailer and the media to highlight our industry.

The West Coast Sea Kayak Symposium is reaching its 25th anniversary! Still considered by many in the industry to be THE premiere event, over 1000 guests attend the 3 day show every September. 70+ manufacturers and retailers, 1400 ft + of beach front, 1000+ attendee’s equals one great weekend for new and experienced paddlers.

Outdoor Industry Association
The OIA is an umbrella association for the entire outdoor industry. TAPS has recently moved closer to the OIA as an Associate Member and strategic partner in a number of initiatives. In particular, TAPS is now participating with the OIA on an Advisory Group to Outdoor Retailer.

We have also recently signed on to the OIA Benefits Package, which offers TAPS members discounts on credit card processing, various discounted shipping options, and discounts on office supplies. Additional benefits are being negotiated and TAPS members will shortly recieve detailed information on how to participate.

Buoyancy and Capacity Standards for Canoes and Kayaks

The American Boat and Yacht Council, in conjunction with the National Marine Manufacturers Association and the US Coast Guard have developed voluntary standards for the manufacture of a wide range of vessels. Since the mid 1990’s there has been a standard for canoes, kayaks, and inflatables. The initial standards were developed with little input from the paddlesports industry. Fortunately, the standards are reviewed on a regular basis. The current review includes the paddlesports industry. Details of the original standards and the proposed changes will be posted here and sent to all affected TAPS members. The deadline for comment will be the middle of March 2007.
