Outdoor Retailer Changes Dates to Save Vendors Time and Money |

In response to market feedback, Outdoor Retailer has decided to move the dates for the upcoming,Summer Market 2008 and Winter Market 2009 tradeshows back by one day. Because of the tight move-in, move-out schedule and a preceding show taking place at the Salt Palace Convention Center, Outdoor Retailer has changed the dates of Summer Market 2008 from Thursday, August 7 through Sunday, August 10, 2008 to Friday, August 8 through Monday, August 11, 2008. The Winter Market show dates for 2009 have been changed from Wednesday, January 21, 2009 through Saturday Jan. 24, 2009 to Thursday,January 22, 2009 through Sunday January 25, 2009.
"Our exhibitors voiced the concern that the existing dates did not provide enough time for a clean move-in and we responded quickly," said Kenji Haroutunian, show director for Outdoor Retailer. "By changing the dates by one day, this alleviates the issue by allowing more setup time as well as saving on costs."
The one day day change allows adequate time for setup in Salt Lake City, avoiding exhibitor setup on the Martin Luther King holiday, and minimizes overtime costs to all companies on setup and teardown. Heightened travel expenses due to the holiday will also be alleviated for retailers traveling into Salt Lake City for Backcountry Base Camp.
"Due to overwhelming encouragement from member exhibitors to make the move, Outdoor Industry Association fully endorses the shift of dates for Winter Market 2009," said Frank Hugelmeyer, president of OIA. "Eliminating the Sunday overtime breakdown expenses will provide significant savings for nearly 1,000 companies."
Although changing dates presents many logistical challenges, Outdoor Retailer has worked to re-contract with all hotels, venues (including Snowbasin for the BBC), and the Salt Lake City Visitors Bureau to assure a smooth transition for all booked space.
Exhibitors and attendees that have made hotel reservations through OR's official Travel Desk for Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2008 and/or Winter Market 2009, will have their reservations automatically adjusted by one day and will receive a new confirmation communication.
