North American Canoe Championships to be Held in Minden Ontario, Canada

Participants from across North American will congregate at the Minden Wildwater Preserve August 1 - 3, to compete in the 2008 ACA Open Canoe Slalom Nationals North American Championships. World class whitewater will test athlete's skill while spectators enjoy up close viewing of timed slalom runs down one of Ontario's most scenic wild rivers.

Outdoor Retailer Changes 2008 Summer Market Dates

Quickly responding to recommendations from manufacturers due to a tight move-in schedule because of an earlier show at the Salt Palace, Outdoor Retailer has changed the dates of the upcoming Outdoor Retailer Summer Market from Thursday, August 7, through Sunday, August 10, 2008 to Friday, August 8, through Monday, August 11, 2008.

"Our exhibitors voiced the concern that the existing dates did not provide enough time for a clean move-in, and we responded quickly," said Kenji Haroutunian, show director for Outdoor Retailer. "By changing the dates by one day, this alleviates the issue by allowing more time and saving on costs."

Professor receives patent for one-armed paddle

Cindy Dillenschneider, professor of outdoor education at Northland College, received a patent for a special canoe paddle designed for use with one arm. The paddle, which she originally developed during a sabbatical in 2005-06, features two primary components: A should attachment point for the paddle and the paddle itself. The shoulder attachment is comprised of a molded plastic cap that fits over the shoulder of the user and has straps that run under the user's arms.
