Rapid Media Launches Series of National Instructor Conferences to Grow Paddling |

Palmer Rapids, ON, March 17, 2007 – In an effort to
grow paddlesports through better instruction, Rapid Media presents
three new national instructor conferences. The Canadian Whitewater Instructor Conference
is being held May 17 and 18 at the Paddler Co-op Boathouse in Palmer
Rapids, Ontario, in conjunction with Palmer Fest, Canada’s premier
whitewater festival. The West Coast Sea Kayaking Instructor Conference is being held May 13-15 on Thetis Island just after the Ladysmith Festival. And the Eastern Canadian Sea Kayak Symposium will be held May 4 at White Squall in conjunction with the Georgian Bay Canoe and Kayak Festival.
The instructor conferences are the first of their kind in Canada and
are designed to bring together the most brilliant minds of instruction,
front line instructors and guides and paddling industry professionals
to figure out how to create more paddling enthusiasts. "About 95 per
cent of introductory paddling course students don’t stick with it, and
that should concern all of us," says Conference Director Scott
MacGregor. "There are great ideas, paddling programs and teaching
methods being developed in paddling organizations and schools, college
programs and clubs, it's time to come together as peers, as instructors
and guides, because what and how we teach has such an influence on
first time paddlers.”
The conferences will deliver a premier national forum for: professional
development through workshops, dialogue and on-water clinics; learning
about current risk management and safety issues and other critical
topics; sharing and developing strategies to increase participation in
whitewater paddling and sea kayaking; professional-level industry
networking; and recertification opportunities with various paddling
organizations.
The conferences are presented by Rapid Media and therefore are open to
all guides and instructors of any provincial, national and
international instructing or guiding organization.
"Although at first it see" funny for a publishing company to be hosting
instructor conferences, it actually makes sense," explains MacGregor.
"With us putting them together it allows instructors and guides from
everywhere to meet on equal ground, as peers, leaving organizational
politics at home."
